Lois Turner scored an unbeaten 51 as Surrey beat Dorset Dolphins by nine wickets at Frimley Cricket Club on Sunday.
Surrey’s vice-captain was player of the match after her impressive batting performance and taking two wickets in Surrey’s first game of the 2018 season in the Blind Cricket England and Wales South and West development league.
Surrey skipper Stuart Ralph won the toss and put the opposition in to bat.
The home side made a strong start as Dorset opener Mackenzie was run out after scoring just two runs. He was followed back to the pavilion by Duffy shortly after who was bowled by Ameet Amin and caught by Turner.
Dorset’s other opener Andy Hollingsworth went on to make a respectable 24 before being dismissed by Mo Ahmed.
The Dolphins middle order provided the most resilience as Ben Williams and Steve Bailey both scored 28. Williams was eventually bowled and caught by Turner who made a spectacular catch.
Shortly after Turner bowled Evie Klamar who was out for 0. Bailey finished on 28 not out as Dorset set the hosts a target of 122-5 after 28 overs.
Surrey’s opening pair Turner and Aaron Fowler made a strong start going on to achieve a 100 partnership before Turner reached 51 and was forced to retire.
Josh Brennand joined Fowler in the middle for a couple of overs before being caught for 0. Surrey’s skipper Ralph, came in to the middle with his side needing just three runs for the win.
Ralph scored three off the first ball he faced to secure his sides win.
Surrey’s next game is on 20th May at home against Gloucestershire Growlers at Frimley Cricket Club at 1pm.
